Role Details:
As a Lead Civil Engineer in the nuclear defence sector, you will provide technical leadership in the delivery of complex, safety-critical infrastructure that supports national security. You will lead civil and structural engineering activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with stringent nuclear safety, security, environmental, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead civil engineering support and manage delivery in line with project standards.
* Review, approve, and accept supply chain designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
* Define functional requirements, support optioneering, and contribute to safety case activities, including PRS.
* Provide technical authority through design reviews, hazard workshops, and Independent Technical Appraisal / Peer Review.
* Assess and approve contractors’ method statements and risk assessments.
* Provide technical supervision of construction, commissioning, and decommissioning activities.
* Engage and advise stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
* Ensure compliance with Environment, Health, Safety, Security, and Quality requirements and support training within own specialism.
Key Requirements:
Essential
* Proven experience delivering civil/structural engineering on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
* Experience assessing designs of civil/structural facilities and equipment to withstand hazards.
* Strong design assurance capability across all project lifecycle stages, ideally within industrial and/or maritime environments.
* Experience engaging and managing stakeholders throughout the engineering lifecycle.
* Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams, including interface with electrical, marine, and mechanical engineering disciplines (ideally in defence and/or nuclear).
* Accredited degree in a relevant civil/structural discipline (or equivalent experience) and Chartered Engineer status.
* SC Clearance, or the ability to obtain it prior to commencement.
Desirable
* Familiarity with nuclear safety case development, including HAZID and HAZOP studies.
* Experience working within the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), particularly on safety-related structures and components.
* Knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulation, codes, standards, and industry practice.
* Experience delivering engineering within defence and/or civil infrastructure projects.
* Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle management.
* Accredited degree to MSc level (or equivalent).
