To assume overall responsibility for the quality of early years provision, including physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care for children in the setting. To promote excellent practice at all times. To support, supervise and mentor staff and leaders in the skills and behaviours that safeguard and promote good outcomes for children.The Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO) is responsible for the day to day operation of the setting’s Special Educational Needs or Inclusion Policy to ensure that children with Special Educational Needs are fully included into all areas in our early years setting.
Responsibilities
* Supervising and supporting all early year’s personnel within the setting in their day-to-day duties including recruitment and induction, appraisal, training and development, individual supervision and performance management.
* Coordinating with appropriate agencies regarding trainee placements and supervising accordingly.
* Being responsible for all administrative duties associated with the management of the early years programmes within the organisation e.g. maintaining records on the children and their families, maintaining an inventory of materials, etc.
* Liaise with manager regards operational aspects of running an early year setting ie: maintaining / updating all policies, procedures, risk assessment and parent booklets, etc
* Ensuring liaison with parents and other professionals in respect of children with special educational needs (SEN).
* Advising and supporting other practitioners in the setting.
* Ensuring that Individual Education Plans are in place Ensuring that relevant background information about individual children with special educational needs is collected, recorded and updated.

Skills and Qualifications
* Level 5 or above qualification in early years Leadership and management.
* Experience and training in identifying and supporting various needs (e.g., autism, dyslexia, ADHD, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties) is essential.
* 2 years’ experience working with children with special educational needs, in a supervisory or senior practitioner role.
