Job Summary
We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Liaison Psychiatry Team at Royal Surrey County Hospital. This 12‑month fixed‑term role focuses on supporting adults with urgent or complex mental health needs during their hospital stay.
Main Duties
* Lead the care of working‑age adults, working alongside a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychologists, and doctors.
* Provide assessments, treatment, and support to patients seen in A&E or admitted to hospital wards, ensuring timely and safe care.
* Collaborate closely with the Older Adults Consultant and other clinical colleagues to ensure joined‑up care across the hospital.
* Support the rapid expansion of liaison psychiatry services with a focus on integrated care and service development.

Qualifications
* Full medical registration with a license to practice.
* Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6–12 months of interview) or equivalent.
* MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
Essential Clinical Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health guidance, and NHS strategic vision.
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and broad medical knowledge.
* Ability to manage clinical complexity, uncertainty, and make evidence‑based decisions.
* Experience working with diverse patient groups across community, inpatient, and specialty teams.
* Knowledge of psychiatric provision and MHA/MCA compliance.
Desirable Qualifications
* Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) or other clinical qualifications.
* MRCPsych or equivalent.
* Management qualification or demonstrated interest in leadership development.
* Published audit or research projects.
Eligibility & Registration
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or able to achieve this within six months.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve this within three months.
* Current UK professional registration.
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
* Clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high‑quality care.
* Communication skills for negotiating with patients, relatives, and professionals.
* Capability to convey complex clinical information to a wide audience, both written and oral.
* Planning and delivering undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and training relevant to the post.
Additional Information
The post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975. The role does not offer sponsorship; a full GMC licence is required.
