We are seeking a passionate, focused, and knowledgeable Waste and Environmental Manager to join our facilities team at The Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will have broad experience working in a large organization with responsibility for waste and environmental management. You will develop, drive forward, and implement new initiatives, as well as build relationships with other NHS Trusts and internal teams.
You will be responsible for ensuring the Trust's compliance with all legislation related to waste management by managing operational waste reduction, recycling, collection, and disposal. Collaboration with the sustainability team will be essential to work towards delivering a 'Net Zero' NHS.
The post holder will define and set service levels, participate in the development and updating of strategies and policies, and provide staff training in waste management and environmental services.
You will assist in ensuring effective communication within the Trust regarding waste management and participate in audits, projects, and initiatives related to cost reduction and income generation.
Your responsibilities include raising awareness of waste disposal procedures, preparing annual audits of waste service providers to ensure compliance with the 'Duty of Care' under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and consulting with other Trust managers and external organizations to identify hazards and advise on control mechanisms.
You will lead periodic reviews of the Trust's Waste Management policy to ensure statutory compliance and contribute to the Trust's Green Plan. Additionally, you will ensure proper administration of waste transfer documentation under relevant regulations.
Supporting the Head of Facilities & Security Management, you will develop strategic waste operational plans aligned with organizational objectives. You will produce annual reports on waste management activities and serve as a lead specialist in healthcare waste management, guided by legislation and HTM 01-07 standards.
The role involves training and development responsibilities and requires maintaining high standards of care, as demonstrated by the Trust's overall 'Good' rating with outstanding care from the CQC.
