Job Description:
Pertemps Bristol Industrial is currently hiring for a Lead Engineer (Mechanical Design) for one of our clients based in Clevedon, BS21.
This role plays a key part in delivering top-notch mechanical engineering solutions for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. As the Lead Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing systems that meet environmental and safety standards, ensuring compliance, safety, and efficiency.
You’ll also lead a team of engineers through the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept to commissioning, working closely with internal and external teams to ensure project success.
Main Responsibilities
1. Lead Mechanical Engineering Projects: Own the technical delivery of mechanical engineering solutions for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including subsystems and technology developments.
2. Team Leadership and Mentoring: Lead and guide a team of around 6 mechanical engineers, ensuring effective task execution across multiple projects. Provide guidance to develop a skilled engineering team.
3. Best Practices Advocacy: Promote and lead the adoption of best practices in mechanical engineering to improve time, cost, quality, and compliance.
4. Work Package Management: Design and allocate work packages, managing projects through milestones to volume production.
5. Compliance and Safety: Ensure all mechanical engineering work meets product, stakeholder, and regulatory requirements by design.
6. Progression: Develop expertise in key mechanical engineering areas for semiconductor equipment, aiming towards a Principal Engineer role.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (essential)
* Master’s degree in mechanical engineering (desirable)
* Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration
* Functional Safety Certifications (desirable)
Experience
* Mechanical engineering experience in a relevant industry (essential)
* Experience in a regulated, compliance-driven environment such as semiconductor manufacturing (desirable)
* Knowledge of standards: EN 61511, SEMI S2, SEMI S10, HAZOP, FMEA, PHA
* Experience with design-for-X principles (manufacture, cost, maintainability)
* Experience in semiconductor equipment and system integration (desirable)
* Understanding of abatement and exhaust management (desirable)
Skills
* Strong expertise in mechanical design and engineering practices
* Leadership and mentoring skills with a proven track record
* Ability to manage complex projects, ensure compliance, and communicate technical concepts clearly
* Problem-solving skills with a professional approach
* Excellent communication skills in English
* Ability to review and release engineering drawings to BS8888, and P&ID review
* Influencing skills (desirable)
