This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Satellite Service Delivery team, providing technical leadership and systems engineering expertise throughout the Service phase of SSTL missions (Launch to End of Life). The focus is on developing and maintaining satellite services, troubleshooting issues, and supporting system and subsystem development activities across all in-flight missions, which range from LEO to interplanetary applications including EO, Communications, Navigation, and science/technology demonstration.
Key Tasks
1. Collaborate with the Satellite Services Manager and Service Delivery Managers to meet availability targets for both space and ground segments.
2. Coordinate with mission Spacecraft Operations Engineers, System Engineers, and Project Managers for a smooth transition into Service Delivery post-LEOP and Commissioning.
3. Lead technical investigations into anomalies and service outages.
4. Perform detailed and root cause analyses for issues on SSTL’s in-flight missions.
5. Contribute to anomaly resolution and restore operational services across subsystems.
6. Support the development and adoption of tools to monitor spacecraft and ground segment health, enabling early detection of performance issues.
7. Implement service improvements and capabilities enhancements for customers.
8. Identify opportunities for service enhancement and incorporate feedback into future designs.
9. Manage routine and non-routine orbital maneuvers with the operations team and service managers.
10. Review and improve company standards and practices.
11. Prepare presentations and reports, including technical briefings for customers.
12. Manage one or more project work packages.
13. Mentor junior colleagues as needed.
14. Provide routine on-call support as part of the duty roster.
Previous Experience
* Minimum of 2 years in Spacecraft Operations or Systems Engineering, with knowledge of:
o Space and ground segments at the subsystem level
o Spacecraft verification testing
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or Maths.
* Proficiency in orbit analysis, constellation configurations, RF link analysis, system budgets, operations, ground segment, space environment, and satellite architectures.
* Experience as a technical lead on space missions.
* Strong knowledge of STK, Python, or similar analysis tools.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Self-motivated with initiative and autonomy.
* Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
* Strong technical writing and presentation abilities.
* Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Flexibility to support work outside office hours and participate in paid on-call support is required.
