Second in Charge of English (2iC)

We are working in partnership with a leading Academy in Hertfordshire to recruit an ambitious and talented Second in Charge of English (2iC) to join their successful department from September 2026 on a permanent basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English Teacher ready to take the next step in their career, or for an existing middle leader seeking a new challenge within a high-performing and forward-thinking academy. The English department is well-established, collaborative, and driven by a shared commitment to delivering outstanding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the Head of English in leading and developing the department
2. Deliver high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
3. Assist with curriculum planning, assessment, and tracking of student progress
4. Lead on specific areas of responsibility (e.g. KS4 outcomes, literacy, or curriculum development)
5. Mentor and support colleagues to drive high standards of teaching and learning
6. Contribute to whole-school improvement strategies
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
7. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
8. A degree in English or a related subject
9. Proven experience teaching English at secondary level, including KS4 and ideally KS5
10. Strong organisational and leadership skills
11. A passion for raising attainment and supporting student progress
12. The ability to inspire both students and colleagues
