Civil Engineer Marine and Tunnelling works role at Mactech Energy Group. This listing reflects a senior position within EDF's design and construction teams, with the opportunity to work on marine and tunnelling projects and to collaborate with the Joint Design Office (JDO).
Responsibilities
* Work as part of the Joint Design Office to ensure design and construction changes are delivered on time to meet construction needs.
* Attend readiness reviews of design packages released for construction as required by design owners.
* Collaborate with Design teams, Contractors and Construction teams to maintain technical quality, construction programme and construction safety.
* Act as technical lead for reviewing and accepting design changes raised by site contractors, managing interfaces between construction contractors and designers.
* Support marine and tunnelling works with a thorough technical understanding of the plant, its systems and the associated safety case.
* Manage site construction configuration and review/accept site-specific design documents.
Principal Accountabilities
* Review and accept design changes proposed by contractors or designers through RFI, Field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report.
* Support handover of Design Packages released for construction and delegate responsibilities accordingly.
* Ensure processes comply with project quality procedures.
* Manage CDM aspects relating to design changes during construction, including discharging the role of principal designer.
* Ensure nuclear safety acceptance of the design by surveillance of design changes during construction.
* Maintain a clear golden thread between high-level safety case and design to support operations.
Knowledge & Skills
* Strong knowledge of secondary lining to tunnels and shafts using reinforced concrete in marine and tunnelling environments.
* Knowledge of pipe jacking and associated launch/termination structures.
* 3+ years of design experience of TBM, pipe jack and secondary lining tunnelling structures.
* Design process and design activities (preferably related to Nuclear Industry).
* Working knowledge of Concrete design codes (Eurocode 2).
* Design with hazard and accidental safety cases.
* Working within UK CDM regulations in a highly regulated industry.
* Delivery-oriented with ability to set action plans and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work independently and under pressure; proactive and pragmatic problem solving.
* Knowledge of pipe jack construction methods and common defects and repair methods.
* Experience in the design of offshore structures and in construction environments with clients, designers and contractors.
* Familiar with safety case process and design substantiation; knowledge of JDO processes.
* Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
* Advanced degree in civil or structural engineering.
* Working towards / Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE.
* Medium Risk Confined Space qualification.
* Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) qualification.
* PWR technology design, safety case or operation knowledge.
