We're looking for an early career director to support our Artistic Director & Producer through rehearsals, opening and early performances of Robin Hood, our annual, all-singing, all-dancing pantomime with a cast/band/production team of more than thirty.
You’ll undertake a wide range of tasks in this role, including assisting with scheduling rehearsals, fittings, press calls etc; providing general/logistical support through rehearsals; running rehearsals of specific scenes/routines as required; and noting rehearsal room runs. You’ll also take primary responsibility for ensuring that understudies are fully rehearsed and ready to step in if needed. Additionally, once the show is up and running, you’ll see/note an agreed schedule of performances, liaising with director and dance captain to ensure quality is maintained. You will also provide ad hoc support for understudies during the run.
We want this role to deliver a meaningful professional development opportunity for an early career director, but it also carries key responsibilities, particularly in respect of the resilience of the show through a busy performance schedule, so we’re looking for someone who can demonstrate relevant professional experience, ideally including working on one or more previous panto and/or comedy theatre productions, plus the flexibility to maintain an active involvement in the project beyond Press Night.
There’s never been a more exciting time to join the Garrick. Boasting a hugely successful pantomime, a varied programme of exciting shows, and state‑of‑the‑art facilities, the success of our modest theatre is truly snowballing as we become a staple for visitors over the festive period and beyond.
This role will be contracted by Lichfield Garrick Theatre.
We value and welcome people from all backgrounds, and we’re committed to building a workplace where everyone feels included. We strive for a fair hiring process that does not discriminate based on age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or personal circumstances, and shortlisting is anonymous. Even if you don’t meet every requirement listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply—especially if you’re passionate about the role and can tell us how you can make a difference. We know that some people might not apply if they don’t tick every box, but we’re more interested in your potential and transferable skills than in finding someone who matches the job ad perfectly.
