This role combines operational accounting, financial planning, reporting, and regulatory compliance to support the day-to-day and strategic financial health of the company and associated entities.You will manage payroll, invoices, tax compliance, VAT, end of year accounts, budget forecasting, and statutory reporting while working closely with the executive leadership to drive sound financial decision-making.Key Responsibilities:1. Financial Operations & BookkeepingMaintain accurate financial records and ensure data is inputted into the accounting system correctlyGenerate and process sales and purchase invoicesReconcile bank accounts, VAT returns, sales ledger, and purchase ledgerManage credit control, aged debtors and creditors analysis, and supplier payments2. Payroll & Tax ComplianceOversee the monthly payroll process, including pension contributions, and ensure compliance with HMRC PAYE regulationsManage VAT submissions, tax payments, and corporation tax filingsLiaise with external tax advisors and regulatory bodies (HMRC, Companies House, Charities Commission, OFCOM, ICO, etc.)3. Financial Planning & ReportingPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including cash flow statements, budget forecasts, and variance analysesAssist in strategic planning and provide insights that support business growth and financial sustainabilityEnsure timely completion of year-end accounts and support external audit processes4. Year-End ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and manage the year-end closing process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all financial reportsPrepare annual statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP or IFRSLiaise with external auditors to support audit preparation and fieldworkEnsure submission of Corporation Tax Return (CT600) and other required regulatory filingsReview and finalise balance sheet reconciliations and year-end journalsSupport preparation of Directors' Reports and ensure all statutory filing deadlines are met5. Process Improvement & ComplianceImplement internal financial controls and streamline accounting processesEnsure compliance with UK GAAP, Companies Act, GDPR, and other relevant legislationMaintain both digital and physical filing systems for easy access and secure record-keeping6. Team Collaboration & SupportAct as the primary contact for internal finance queries and work closely with HR and operations teamsSupport the financial needs of associated companiesLiaise with banks, auditors, and regulatory authorities when necessaryQualifications & Skills:Essential:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related fieldACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or studying towards qualification)Minimum 3 years' experience in an accounting roleStrong understanding of VAT, payroll, corporation tax, and financial controlsProficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software (Xero, Sage 50)Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of meeting tight deadlinesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDesirable:Experience with Sage PayrollPrevious exposure to charity accounting or regulated sectors (ICO, OFCOM, etc.)Knowledge of pension schemes and auto-enrolmentFamiliarity with budgeting tools and financial modellingPersonal Attributes:Proactive, problem-solving mindset with a solutions-oriented approachHigh level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalismAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong analytical skills and attention to detailComfortable managing multiple priorities and working under pressure This job description outlines the primary responsibilities and scope of the Accountant.
