King’s Language Centre (LC) is a semi-entrepreneurial department with over 100 members of staff. It sits within the Centre for International Education & Languages (CIEL). It teaches up to 27 languages and welcomes over 8,000 students each year to a variety of language courses. It has two broad and entwined remits: to provide language teaching and support in a range of formats to members of the King’s community; and to proactively pursue income-generating teaching opportunities with businesses, organisations and the wider London community.

The Centre sits alongside the nine Faculties of the university and comprises King’s Foundations, King’s Language Centre, and Summer Programmes. Each of these areas are well established, respected and recognised within and beyond the King’s community. The Centre also supports the educational and learning development of King’s staff and students.

About the role
The successful candidate will join a team of 15 lecturers of French and will be involved in all the activities of the Language Centre, including teaching French and culture courses in a variety of programmes (UWLP, specialist students, Short Courses, Doctoral Training Partnership, and multiple partnerships with Faculties and other HE institutions). The successful candidate will support the Team Leader and Deputy Team Leaders in the planning and development of all activities related to the teaching of French, student experience, material and programme development, widening participation, and scholarly engagements.
The post holder will support, develop and maintain an active scholarly portfolio of activities related to the teaching of French language and culture, and play an active role in the developing/trialling/evaluating of original and/or adapted teaching materials.
The post holder will participate in the review, development and management of activities relating to course organisation and other functions, including staff management, student evaluations, quality control, and in meetings convened for these purposes.
The post holder will be expected to attend conferences, present papers, network in relevant associations, and represent the LC locally, attending King’s committee meetings and interest groups.
This is a full-time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Native level fluency in French.
2. Qualified to Postgraduate level in French language teaching / applied linguistics or a closely related subject, and substantial experience of teaching French at all levels in the Higher Education sector.
3. Expertise in the development of an active scholarly portfolio of activities related to the teaching of French language and culture.
4. Experience in innovative engagement in technology-enhanced learning.
5. Extensive experience in the development of teaching resources following current language teaching methodologies (CLIL, communicative approach, task-based approach, etc).
Desirable criteria
6. Experience in designing online modules, online assessment tools, and online resources.
7. A PhD in French studies, Applied linguistics, or Education.
8. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy / Advance HE
