Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is one of Britains leading co-educational independent boarding schools. It is located in the small market town of Uppingham, amid the rolling fields of Rutland.
The Sports Centre The Sports Centre is a dual use facility for both Uppingham School and the local community. As well as providing a first-class facility for the Schools pupils, the Centre has been designed to allow increased access by local residents, sports clubs and schools. It includes a sports hall, 25m swimming pool, gym, squash courts and dance studios. The Centre also houses the Schools PE Department and includes a hospitality suite for match-day entertaining. In December 2021, the Centres fitness suite was refurbished and supplied with new state-of-the-art fitness equipment creating an enhanced 60 station gym.
After accommodating the educational and social demands of pupils, the School is eager to develop wider access to the Centre and to encourage participation by the local community in a range of sports and leisure activities organised and managed by the Centre staff. The Centre is managed by the Schools trading company on a commercial basis. Critical to the success of the Centre is a commercially targeted and client focused team. Staff will readily accept the responsibility of representing the School and enterprise company in the local community.
Job Purpose
To deliver safe, fun and effective swimming lessons to children and adults of all ages through USSC Swim school programme of lessons.
Responsibilities
* To plan and deliver lessons at Uppingham School Sports Centre following the current programme of teaching. (Learn to Swim Swim England)
* Teach with full regard to health and safety, coordinating and communicating with other teachers assistants and lifeguards regarding each class and the supervision/layout required.
* Log and report any incidents/accidents or any other concerns to the facility Duty Manager.
* Report any safety concerns or health and safety issues to the Activity Co-ordinator and Duty Manager.
* To ensure the lesson programs are safe and appropriate to the needs/abilities of the participants involved and provide supervision and assistance to all participants.
* Present and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner with courtesy and regard for others.
* Wear suitable clothing for teaching when in the water and uniform when out of water or when leaving or arriving on site.
* Maintain qualifications, ensuring they are up to date and relevant.
* Attend team meetings, training sessions, employee review sessions and CPD courses as recommended.
* Contribute to secondary activity ASA courses and NPLQ etc.
* Welcome all participants in a professional and friendly manner.
* Prepare effectively to deliver lessons to a high standard as outlined in the Swim School Programme.
* Ensure all equipment is used correctly and within Health & Safety guidelines.
* Instruct and provide feedback and encouragement to all participants during lessons.
* Direct any bookings or enquires to the Front of House team/ Swim Manager
* Promote the progression though the Learn to Swim Programme including additional badges, Rookie Lifeguard and Stages 8+

* ASA Teachers Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification
* NRASTC Qualification

* Ability to instruct clients of varying ages and abilities
* Excellent communication
* Good organisational skills
* Proven track record of teaching swimming
* Knowledge of Learn to Swim (Swim England)

Terms and Conditions
* Location: Uppingham
* Working Hours: 6 hours per week, 13 weeks per year
* Shifts Available: Monday 16:00 - 18:45 and Wednesday 15:45 - 19:00
* Salary: £20.49 per hour

Safeguarding
