Job Summary
To manage a well‑established ECT service, including providing senior clinical support and guidance to the ECT team and wider teams. You will also provide direct clinical care as the ECT Manager in line with ECTAS Standards, identify and take the lead in developing clinical audit and research activity, and ensure an effective process for clinical compliance checks is embedded within the clinical area.
Main Duties
* Ensure that the SLA is delivered and reviewed in line with ECTAS Standards.
* Ensure Trust policies, procedures and legislative directives relevant to the ECT Department are robustly implemented.
* Support the development of the skills and knowledge of your team to maintain competency, with skills analysis to inform the training plan.
* Use clinical and resource management information analytically to inform decisions that meet service‑user, team and organisational objectives.
* Take the lead in implementing or supporting clinical and non‑clinical risk management systems.
* Implement regular team meetings and collect patient/carer feedback.
* Challenge poor and unsafe practice, taking appropriate action to address substandard performance in a timely manner.
* Uphold and implement HR policy and procedure to ensure safety, effectiveness and high standards of care.
* Support the overall Trust vision and strategic implementation within your defined area of responsibility ensuring clear communication within teams.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical and Quality Assurance
Provide senior clinical support and guidance to the ECT team and wider team. Provide direct clinical care as ECT service Manager in line with ECTAS Standards. Identify and take the lead in developing clinical audit and research activity, ensuring effective processes for clinical compliance checks are embedded within the clinical area. Lead on delivering the clinical quality agenda as defined by the Trust. Embed best practice through feedback from compliments, complaints, and concerns. Promote a multidisciplinary approach to incident analysis, ensuring that clinical meetings are appropriately multi‑disciplinary, and share wider learning as appropriate. Be aware of national policy guidance relating to emerging and established best practice in delivering an evidence‑based service.

Ensure care is delivered to incorporate health and social care pathways. Deliver care in a person‑centred manner. Include people in care, carers and significant others in planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of care. Support the interests of people in our care in complex situations, using professional knowledge, judgment and skills to account for decisions and lead clinical teams.
Leadership
Promote good practice and prevent poor practice; intervene proactively into unacceptable practice. Ensure communication systems are in place within the clinical area to support high‑quality care (IT, verbal, interpersonal, written). Support change management. Facilitate strategic thinking, promote an umbrella view of clinical situations, and cultivate a reflective learning culture.
Practice / Professional Development
Participate in regular appraisal and identify development needs. Obtain regular clinical and managerial supervision. Create opportunities to optimise personal clinical practice in line with service needs and best practice evidence. Maintain a professional portfolio for revalidation. Build local and national networks for best‑practice sharing.

Speciality Specific Requirements
Raise the profile of the acute mental health care specialty and understand the acute care pathway, particularly using ECT as a valid treatment. Demonstrate awareness of the ECT care pathway and disseminate it constructively. Complete training relevant to the ECT role per ECTAS Standards. Apply assessment and formulation skills to inform person‑centred care plans. Develop a nursing identity and roles within the multi‑disciplinary team. Use therapeutic intervention and engagement skills. Carry out specialist assessments per ECT professional frameworks. Understand partnership working with Anaesthetist, ODP, Recovery Nurse. Membership of NALNECT and Regional SIG meetings. Ensure competence in managing clinical and physical health risk and create a climate conducive to positive risk‑taking. Collaborate with Lead Consultant Psychiatrist and Lead Anaesthetist to ensure safe anaesthetic and ECT administration. Train all staff on legal frameworks like MHA and Mental Capacity Act / Consent. Ensure patients' capacity aligns with legal frameworks. Complete ECTAS Foundation ECT course within a year and maintain competencies as per ECTAS Standards.
Person Specification
* Qualifications – Essential Must have NMC registration
* Qualifications – Desirable Trained in ILS
* Experience – Essential Experience of working with acute mental health settings
* Experience – Desirable Strong knowledge of ECT, associated policies and guidance including national guidance; highly developed clinical reasoning skills and ability to conduct risk assessments
