About the Role
ExamWorks UK is expanding its AI capability and is seeking a practically minded AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy intelligent, workflow driven solutions that solve real operational and business challenges. Working within the AI, this role sits at the intersection of AI innovation and operational delivery. You will be responsible for embedding AI into business systems in a way that is scalable, governed, and genuinely useful to the organisation. This is a hands on technical role. You will work extensively with n8n (our enterprise automation platform), Azure AI services, REST APIs, and SQL backed data pipelines, while collaborating closely with business and product teams to define requirements, validate feasibility, and ensure outputs are accurate, reliable, and aligned with operational priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Model Selection & Evaluation
* Evaluate AI and language models to identify the most appropriate fit for each use case.
* Compare model performance using benchmarks, metrics, and real world testing.
* Stay current with emerging AI models and assess their relevance to ExamWorks use cases.
* Ensure all model choices meet ethical, compliance, and governance standards.
Prompt Engineering & Optimisation
* Design and refine prompts to maximise accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
* Experiment with different prompt patterns and structures across varied use cases.
* Build scalable, reusable prompt frameworks and libraries.
* Iteratively test and optimise prompts to improve performance.
* Apply design principles that identify and reduce bias in AI outputs.
Workflow Engineering & Automation
* Build and maintain end to end automated workflows using n8n.
* Orchestrate AI models, APIs, and data sources into reliable pipelines.
* Optimise workflows for performance, scalability, and resilience.
* Identify opportunities to reduce manual intervention across operational processes.
API & Systems Integration
* Design and implement REST API and webhook integrations.
* Support integration testing to validate AI behaviour in real operational contexts.
* Perform structured data and JSON transformations within pipelines.
Deployment, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
* Deploy AI solutions safely into production environments.
* Monitor solution performance and iterate based on user feedback and metrics.
* Ensure scalability across multiple projects and user groups.
* Support product teams in embedding AI into internal and customer facing applications.
Data Handling, Governance & Security
* Analyse operational data to understand model behaviour and improve outputs.
* Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, and security standards.
* Identify data quality issues that affect AI reliability and outputs.
* Support compliance with ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, and relevant audit frameworks.
Documentation, QA & Collaboration
* Maintain clear documentation covering AI assets, workflows, and integrations.
* Document solutions for both technical and non technical stakeholders.
* Collaborate with cross functional teams to align AI delivery with business goals.
* Define evaluation metrics and quality standards for AI outputs.
* Identify and mitigate risks such as hallucinations, bias, and inconsistent responses.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non technical audiences.
* Hands on experience with workflow automation platforms (n8n preferred; Make, Zapier or Node RED also considered).
* Practical experience with prompt engineering and prompt optimisation.
* Strong SQL skills for querying and validating relational data (MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).
* Experience working with REST APIs and webhooks.
* Familiarity with large language models in production ready environments.
* Experience handling structured and semi structured data at scale.
* Working knowledge of Git, JSON, and data transformation techniques.
* Experience working within agile delivery and product development lifecycles.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Desirable
* Experience with Azure AI services (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Cognitive Services).
* Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, MLOps, or enterprise AI deployment practices.
* Experience working in healthcare, legal, or regulated industries.
* Experience building AI dashboards or reporting tools (e.g. Power BI).
* Experience deploying AI solutions in cloud environments (Azure preferred).
* Ability to identify and mitigate hallucinations, bias, and AI quality issues.
* Experience with Python or JavaScript for scripting and integration work.
* Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills.
