The General Optical Council (GOC) is the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, performance and conduct amongst opticians. We currently register around 33,000 optometrists, dispensing opticians, student opticians and optical businesses.
We have four core functions:
Setting standards for optical education and training, performance and conduct.
Approving qualifications leading to registration.
Maintaining a register of individuals who are qualified and fit to practise, train or carry on business as optometrists and dispensing opticians.
Investigating and acting where registrants’ fitness to practise, train or carry on business is impaired
The regulatory operations directorate is responsible for investigating and acting where a registrants’ fitness to practise may be impaired.
The post-holder will undertake a varied and interesting role supporting officers, managers and the Head of Department head to ensure the smooth running of our adjudication function.
This will include (but is not limited to) managing the allocation process, coordinating the preparation and distribution of hearing bundles, and supporting the management of invoices and payroll.
Core Responsibilities
Manage the hearing allocation process, including coordination for officer and management sign-off.
Manage invoices and payroll processes for Head of Department approval.
Manage the hearings inbox and act as the first point of contact for telephone queries, responding or escalating as appropriate.
Communicate with relevant customers and stakeholders to provide or obtain information about the organisation’s functions and procedures, including the timely chasing and distribution of hearing bundles.
Actively participate in training and development activities and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
Contribute to continuous improvement within the team, including supporting and, where appropriate, leading on project work.
Provide cover for colleagues and other departments as required.
Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications
Strong literacy and numeracy skills
Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail
Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines
Strong communication and customer service skills
Proactive approach with good problem-solving ability
Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Previous administrative experience
Experience working within case management or database systems
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & dynamics 365)
