The Opportunity As an Engineering Manager at Bright, you will lead and mentor squads of engineers building AI-powered features into our software products, overseeing both development and maintenance to enhance our solutions. You'll ensure timely delivery of projects while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Development Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to engineers Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that encourages innovation and knowledge sharing Hold regular 1:1s with all team members, supporting their career development and growth Actively participate in recruitment and onboarding of new team members Project & Process Management Run agile project management processes (Scrum, Kanban, or similar methodologies) Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, plans, and strategies Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery, monitoring progress and adjusting plans as necessary Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner Technical Excellence & Innovation Ensure best practices in software development, testing, and deployment Identify and implement process improvements for development, testing, and deployment Drive continuous improvement in product quality, security, and performance Explore and integrate AI tools and technologies to enhance development efficiency and product capabilities Champion the adoption of emerging technologies and modern development practices Requirements Essential Experience Technical credibility from proven experience in a software engineering role Management credibility from experience in a leadership or team lead role Experience building products for the web (highly recommended) Hands-on experience working in an agile environment with methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban Key Skills & Attributes Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills Ability to understand, communicate, and improve team quality and performance Demonstrable analytical skills using data to derive insights and drive decisions Interest in or experience with AI technologies and their practical application in software development Proven ability to prioritise multiple projects and report details to management and stakeholders Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Knowledge of technology development best practices and modern development tooling Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and focus on achieving targets Nice to Have Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Understanding of modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines Experience in the accounting, payroll, or practice management software industry Benefits include: Performance Bonus 25 days annual leave Company pension of up to 5% company contribution Health insurance Life insurance Hybrid Woking opportunities Educational Assistance Family Supportive Free Parking Free onsite food Company Events
