Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is an integral part of the clinical shift, providing essential knowledge, support and skill to staff within the department. The post holder will maintain clinical safety, see approximately 19 patients per shift, and work 30 hours per week across three 10‑hour shifts.
Responsibilities
* Act as part of the Urgent Treatment Centre team, seeing patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed health problems and liaising with multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Provide care and advice to clients using evidence‑based practice to promote effective treatment and health promotion.
* Assess, plan and implement nursing treatment plans in line with best practice.
* Act as an autonomous practitioner within agreed protocols, guided by organisational policies and scope of professional practice.
* Work under indirect supervision, accessing the knowledge and skills of the team leader as required.
* Mentor pre‑ and post‑registration nurses, allied health professionals and students.
* Demonstrate flexibility, working across a range of shift patterns and integrating care across both units.
* Participate in the education, development and line management of other staff members.
* Maintain a high standard of patient care in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the scope of practice.
* Provide specialist clinical knowledge and advice to colleagues, patients, carers and relatives.
* Supervise new and junior staff, including health‑care assistants.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered nurse at first level or qualified paramedic practitioner with current NMC/HCPC registration.
* Relevant and current experience in A&E, primary care or an urgent care setting.
* Evidence of continuing professional development, research and audit experience.
* Basic IT literacy and training in the development of staff.
Essential Skills
* Strong communication, decision‑making and facilitation skills.
* Ability to motivate and organise effectively.
* Negotiation skills and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary teamwork.
Desirable Skills / Experience
* Chronic disease management, clinical examination skills and experience working in a nurse‑led service.
* Family planning, health promotion, mental health and children's nursing experience.
* Knowledge of ILS/ALS/PALS, suturing/wound management, venepuncture and ear/eye care skills.
Working Pattern
Part‑time, 30 hours per week over three 10‑hour shifts.
Salary
£38,682 to £46,580 per annum.
Location
Oaks Place Surgery, Caldwell Road, Widnes, Cheshire WA8 7GD.
