Specialist secondary SEN and SEMH schools in Farnham and the surrounding areas are seeking dedicated Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) for January start dates. These settings support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, sensory differences, and—within SEMH schools—young people who present with emotional and behavioural challenges. Schools are looking for adaptable, resilient, and compassionate LSAs who can provide high-quality support and help create positive, inclusive learning environments.

About the Pupils and Their Needs

Depending on the setting, you may be supporting pupils who have:

In SEN specialist schools:

* Autism spectrum conditions with communication, social interaction, or sensory needs

In SEMH secondary settings:

* Emotional and behavioural difficulties

* High anxiety, low self-esteem, or trauma-related needs

* Dysregulation and challenging behaviour requiring calm, consistent, relational support

* Barriers to learning linked to past negative school experiences

Across all settings, pupils benefit from structured routines, adapted approaches, and strong, trusting relationships with adults.

As a Secondary SEN/SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will:

* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils access learning

* Assist teachers with delivering differentiated activities and personalised interventions

* Use structured approaches such as TEACCH, visual supports, and communication systems

* Support emotional regulation and encourage positive behaviour using trauma-informed strategies (in SEMH settings)

* Help implement EHCP targets, behaviour plans, and individual support strategies

* Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and behaviour mentors

* Promote independence, confidence, and engagement in the classroom

* Contribute to creating predictable, inclusive learning environments
