We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Swimming Teacherto join our Active Communities team at Enable! he Community Swim programme is an affordable, locally available way forchildren aged between 5-15, to learn and develop their swimming skills.

Although the programme is not new the sessions taking place at St Pauls school are brand new. Theaim of the programme is to help participants learn and improve their swimming skills for an affordable pricein an inclusive space.Once finished with all levels,participants will beadvised tomoveonto local swimming clubs or competitive swimming.The programme runs atSt Pauls School from 5:30 to 7:30pmterm time only.

Work Arrangement: On-Site, Saturday 5:30-7:30pm


Role Overview:

Responsible to theActive Communities Teamfordelivering swimming lessons, followingSwim Englandguidelinesand updating registers and swimming levels onSoaklyteaching App/Desktop. The lessons are for5-15-year-oldsof varying abilities. To work with other swimming staffand Lifeguardsto set up, take down andmaintainEnable Leisure and Sport’s equipment and deliver an enjoyable swimming experience for the participants.

The leisure team want to enrich all lives within Wandsworth leading on the needs of the community, delivering programmes that reach out to local places and people, removing barriers and increasing access to activity.


Main Duties/Responsibilities

* To ensure the safety of children in the pool and on pool side.
* To independently plan, prepare,deliverand evaluate a series of swimming lessonswhilst followingSwim Englandguidelineson theSoaklyteaching App.
* Work with a swimming assistant during swimming sessions taking turns teaching on poolside and in the pool toassistlower-levelswimmers.
* Provide regular communications to the responsibleActive Communities team memberwith details of the sessions, highlighting any challenges and successes.
* To be able tomaintainregistersandupdateskill progressionfor each participant weeklyonSoaklyTeachers app.
* To maintain GDPR standards ensuring noparticpantdata is left out and is stored securely.
* Adhere to the Enable Leisure and Culture’s human resources policies.
* Commit to evening work in term time.
* ComplywithHealth & Safety legislation to ensure safe working practices of all staff, public and contractors intheworking environment,in accordance withEnable Leisure & Culture and the venue’ssafety arrangements, policies and codes.
* Be committed to professional development byidentifyingany training that willassistthe role.
* To understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 in relation to safeguarding children and young people. To ensure theappropriate memberof staff is made awareand kept fully informed of any concerns which you may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection.


The successful candidate will have

* Hold aSEQ Level1andLevel 2 Swimming Teaching qualification.
* Have a sound knowledge of theSwim Englandcurriculum.
* A knowledge and understanding of safeguarding vulnerable adults and young people and its relevance to the role ofswimming Teacher/Coach,demonstratingintegrity always and a willingness to attend training asrequired.
* Experience of supervising swimming lessons in a leisure or competitive setting.
* Experience of casual/freelance coaching/instructing is desirable.
* Experience of working collaboratively, in a team setting.
* Experience working with young children(Desirable).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to converse with key people (including colleagues,children,young people, otherorganisationsand thepublic).
* Be able to manage behaviourof participantsto ensure sessions are enjoyable and inclusive.
* Ability to contribute to the development of training programmes and sessions for groups.
* Excellent organisation skills to keep up with admin related tasks such asSoaklyregisters and swimmer levels.
