Job Purpose

The Site Security Manager is responsible for the leadership, delivery, and continuous improvement of security services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, visitors, and contractors.

The role supports compliance with SIA Approved Contractor Scheme standards and the NHS Violence Prevention and Reduction Standard (VPRS), promoting prevention, early intervention, trauma‑informed practice, and proportionate responses to violence and aggression within an acute healthcare environment.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Service Management

* Provide strong, visible leadership of the site security service, maintaining high professional and behavioural standards
* Ensure safe, effective, and responsive delivery of security services in line with contractual and Trust requirements
* Act as the senior on‑site security lead and Deputy to the Contract Manager when required
* Develop constructive working relationships with Trust stakeholders, senior clinicians, and managers


Violence Prevention & Reduction (VPRS)

* Support the Trust’s Violence Prevention and Reduction strategy through proactive security leadership
* Identify trends, hotspots, and emerging risks linked to violence, aggression, and antisocial behaviour
* Promote de‑escalation and early intervention as the primary response wherever possible
* Ensure security actions are trauma‑informed, patient‑centred, and proportionate
* Reinforce the principle that violence and abuse are not an acceptable part of work


Incident Management & Response

* Act as the primary point of contact for security incidents and escalations
* Lead responses to incidents involving violence, aggression, disorder, or safety risk


Governance, Risk & Compliance

o Ensure compliance with:
o SIA licensing and conduct standards
o Trust policies and procedures
o Data protection and GDPR requirements
o Monitor staff compliance, training currency, and operational readiness
o Complete regular audits, checks, and assurance activity
o Review workforce and performance data (e.g. Timegate, WorkIT, PowerBI)
o Lead or support investigations and disciplinary processes fairly and consistently


People Management & Development

o Manage and develop security staff through supervision, Job Chats, and performance reviews
o Support recruitment, induction, training, and ongoing competency development
o Promote a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture
o Encourage continuous learning and professional development


Patient, Staff & Public Experience

o Maintain a professional, approachable, and reassuring presence
o Balance enforcement responsibilities with compassion, dignity, and respect
o Respond effectively to concerns raised by patients, staff, or visitors
o Contribute to a safe and supportive care environment aligned to NHS values


Skills & Experience

o DS and CCTV licences are essential
o Previous experience in a security leadership or management role
o Managing staff in a regulated or high‑risk environment
o Managing incidents involving violence or aggression
o Conducting investigations and disciplinary processes
o Experience in NHS or acute healthcare
o 5 years checkable work and address history.
o A team player, flexible and supportive, putting team goals first.
o Effective people skills, able to interact with colleagues, customers and members of the public in a positive and professional manner.
