As Assistant Team Manager in our Duty & Assessment service, you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding children. Leading and supporting a small group of Social Workers, you’ll oversee high-quality assessments, ensure effective planning, and provide both statutory and preventative services that keep children safe and help families thrive.

This is a role where leadership and practice meet: you’ll guide your team day-to-day while also driving improvements in how we deliver children’s social care across the service.

What You’ll Do

* Lead and inspire a team of Social Workers, with responsibility for line management, performance, and supporting change.
* Champion best practice, ensuring every child’s voice is heard and placed at the heart of decision-making.
* Build strong partnerships, working collaboratively with children, families, and a diverse set of professionals to co-produce solutions.
* Take ownership of key areas of practice improvement, helping to raise standards across children’s social care.
* Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring spending decisions are transparent and focused on positive outcomes.
* Handle complaints with empathy and professionalism, using feedback to strengthen the service.

About You

* A qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or Degree Level) with registration with Social Work England.
* Ideally, additional qualifications such as PQ1/PQ2 or supervisory/management training.
* Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection legislation (Working Together 2015), Pan Berkshire Child Protection Procedures, and local assessment frameworks.
* Ability to translate legislation and research into meaningful, practical action.
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and allocate cases effectively.
* Resilient, collaborative, and passionate about driving positive outcomes for children and families.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a management role — it’s an opportunity to influence how children and families experience social care. You’ll be supported by an experienced senior management team, given space to grow your leadership skills, and be part of a service that genuinely values innovation, reflection, and continuous improvement.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and help shape the future of children’s services, we’d love to hear from you.
