The role

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding applied mathematician, in the broadest sense, who will support or complement the research activities of the Institute for Applied Mathematics in the School of Mathematics at the University of Bristol. Currently, the Institute has research activity in complex materials, fluid dynamics, soft matter, and theoretical biophysics. A characteristic of the Institute is its outward looking approach to research, indicated by the fact that all of these areas benefit from collaboration outside the Institute, both within the School of Mathematics, and University wide.

What will you be doing?

* Develop your own outstanding research programme.
* Carry out appropriate administrative tasks.
* Deliver excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

You should apply if

You have a passion for developing and leading innovative and impactful research in applied mathematics. You have demonstrated the self‑motivation, initiative, and organisational skills required to carry out a successful research programme. You have a proven publication record in internationally recognized, peer‑reviewed scientific journals.

Additional information

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure their referees send their letters of reference to maths-recruitment@bristol.ac.uk by 06/04/2026. This instruction supersedes any information in the online application form suggesting that referees are contacted directly by the University.

The advert will close at 23:59 UK time on 06/04/2026.

The presentations/interviews are anticipated to take place on the 3rd/4th June 2026.
