Deputy Centre Manager -Youlbury (Mat Cover)
Location: Youlbury Scout Adventures Centre, Boars Hill, Oxford OX1 5HD
This is a live-in role with on-site accommodation included.
Salary: £31,716 per annum, Band E, Level 3
Hours: 35 per week – evenings and weekends required on a rota basis
Contract: Fixed-term (Maternity Cover) – 14 months
About the team and role
At Scout Adventures, we believe in the power of outdoor learning. We're looking for someone to help lead and coordinate day-to-day operations at our Youlbury Centre, ensuring young people from across the UK have access to safe, meaningful, and fun experiences.
You'll support staff and volunteers, keep our activities running smoothly, and help manage the resources that make it all happen. If you're experienced in outdoor activity delivery and enjoy working in a hands-on, people-focused environment, this could be a great fit.
As our Deputy Centre Manager, Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and support a team of instructors, centre staff, and volunteers
* Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth delivery of outdoor activities
* Help manage a centre budget of around £800k
* Work closely with catering, facilities, and external partners
* Support on-call duty management and ensure effective communication across teams
As our Deputy Centre Manager, what you'll bring:
* Experience managing teams in operational or activity-based settings
* Strong planning, coordination, and time-management skills
* Knowledge of activity safety systems and operational standards
* A collaborative mindset, with the ability to delegate and support others
* Adventurous activities qualifications (e.g. ERCA, GNAS) and PPE inspection certification
* A positive, solutions-focused attitude and a steady approach under pressure
