Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Hampstead, Camden Borough, London Pay Rate: £100–£130 per day, depending on experience Contract Type: Full-time, term-time Working Hours: Monday to Friday Start Date: Immediate or next academic term Introduction An outstanding and inclusive primary school in Hampstead, a prestigious and family-oriented Camden subarea, is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA). This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children with a wide range of additional learning, social, emotional, or communication needs achieve their full potential. As an SEN TA, you will provide personalised support to pupils in one-to-one and small group settings, working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and external specialists. This role requires patience, creativity, and resilience, as you will help children overcome barriers to learning while fostering their independence and confidence. Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) : Pupils may require targeted interventions to develop communication skills, vocabulary, and confidence. Learning Delays : Pupils may benefit from additional support in literacy, numeracy, and other curriculum areas. Sensory Processing Needs : Pupils may need adaptations in the classroom or personalised support to engage comfortably in learning. Support may be delivered in one-to-one sessions, small groups, or integrated into whole-class learning, depending on each pupil’s needs and the strategies set by the SENCO. Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include: Delivering personalised support to pupils with SEN, ensuring they can access lessons and activities effectively Supporting pupils in achieving academic and personal development goals Working closely with class teachers to adapt lessons and resources to individual needs Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual support plans Supporting pupils’ emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social skills Encouraging positive peer relationships and communication Assisting with transitions between lessons and supervision during breaks and lunchtimes Observing, recording, and reporting pupil progress and behaviour Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists Supporting pupils with personal care needs when required, with dignity and respect Promoting independence while providing structured support Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment This role requires creativity, patience, and adaptability to respond effectively to the diverse needs of pupils. The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking someone who is: Patient, compassionate, and empathetic Emotionally resilient and able to handle challenging situations calmly Flexible and adaptable to changing pupil needs and school routines Confident in supporting pupils with a range of SEN needs An effective communicator and collaborative team player Committed to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing Previous experience in SEN settings is desirable but not essential. Individuals with experience in youth work, care work, mental health support, or behaviour intervention are encouraged to apply.
