Job Description
The Vehicle Dynamics is at the heart of unlocking car performance through advanced technical insight and predictive modelling. The Tyre Science group captures the complex physics of tyre behaviour, developing models that are integrated into simulation tools to optimise car development and on-track performance. These tools, recreate real-world conditions in a virtual environment, allowing engineers and drivers to test setups, validate new components, train, and refine race strategies without physically running the car. Together, these disciplines form a critical foundation for performance gains, transforming data into competitive advantage.
Tyre Science Graduate
Join the Vehicle Dynamics department at Williams Racing as a Tyre Science Graduate, contributing to the development and refinement of state-of-the-art tyre models and toolsets. You’ll play a key role in understanding tyre physics and translating that into performance gains on track. This role offers hands-on experience in simulation, testing, and optimisation supporting the development of a competitive Formula 1 car.
Shape the Future
* Contribute to the development of advanced tyre models and optimisation tools that support car setup and performance.
* Design and execute test programmes to improve tyre understanding and simulation accuracy.
* Help shape how Williams Racing integrates tyre science into vehicle dynamics and race strategy.
Make Real Impact
* Develop and maintain a robust tyre model test library.
* Ensure strong correlation between simulation behaviour and track or rig-derived measurements.
* Support the Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) test programme and contribute to validated simulation data.
* Accelerate the creation of accurate tyre parameterisation through toolset optimisation.
Find Your Place
* Solid academic background in theoretical mechanics and dynamics, with confidence working from first principles.
* Proficient in Python and/or C++ and familiar with mechanical and thermal modelling, simulation, and optimisation techniques.
* Understanding of simulation development, data analysis, and machine learning is highly desirable.
* Detail-oriented, collaborative, and proactive ready to contribute to a high-performance team.
* Strong communication skills and a passion for motorsport engineering.
