Lead Midwife – Labour Ward Coordinator (Internal Only)

Band 7 – Part‑time (24hrs weekly) Fixed‑term contract of 6 months (Pro Rata)
Salary £49,387 – £56,515 per annum.

Key Responsibilities
* Act as lead midwife within the acute maternity unit, providing specialist expertise during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.
* Work independently and deliver evidence‑based, high quality care to women and families.
* Develop and maintain high standards of clinical care, supporting the implementation of national maternity improvement initiatives.
* Oversee day‑to‑day management of the maternity unit and act as lead coordinator on a rotational basis.
* Motivate and guide a multidisciplinary team, promoting a safe, compassionate and positive environment.
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife (UK)
* Post‑graduate diploma or equivalent in midwifery, or equivalent further development.
* Foundation Diploma in Management (or equivalent).
* Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
* Advanced life support in obstetrics (or equivalent).
* Post‑graduate management or teaching certificates.
* Audit or Equality impact assessment experience.
Essential Experience
* Experience with obstetric emergencies and neonatal/adult resuscitation.
* Staff management and postgraduate ante‑, intra‑ and post‑natal care.
Desirable Experience
* Management of change initiatives.
Knowledge
* Continuing professional portfolio and child protection issues.
* Midwives Codes of Practice, risk management, equality legislation and best practice.
* Budgetary implications.
Desirable Knowledge
* Audit, equality impact assessment.
