Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Planning Casework Manager to join the Transport Infrastructure Planning Unit (TIPU). TIPU provides advice to Ministers on whether to approve applications to build infrastructure, submitted under legislation including the Planning Act 2008 for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) such as strategic roads, aviation and major harbour projects.
This exciting role offers the chance to work on NSIPs and build your skills and knowledge of the planning process. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team, contributing to robust and timely guidance for Ministers on planning applications.
Responsibilities
* Assess the merits of Development Consent Orders under the Planning Act 2008 for projects including strategic roads, aviation and major harbour developments.
* Identify issues from lengthy recommendation reports and collaborate with managers and lawyers to resolve them.
* Assess applications against planning, transport and environmental policies and legislation.
* Draft well-argued, legally robust decisions and ministerial advice to strict statutory deadlines.
* Work closely with environmental managers and lawyers to ensure advice and final decision documents are robust and meet deadlines.
* Respond to briefing requests, correspondence, FOIs and press queries relating to your cases.
Qualifications and Skills
* Knowledge of planning casework, policy and/or legislation.
* Ability to analyse lengthy technical reports, interpret legislation and draft detailed decision letters.
* Strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and keep work on track, delivering within tight statutory timescales.
* Clear and concise writing, with the ability to present reasoning behind a decision or recommendation in a non-technical way for a diverse audience.
