Materials & Structures, part of the RSK Group are looking to recruit a Tender Estimator to join the team in Hemel Hempstead. This is a full-time, permanent position.
A tender estimator is responsible for analysing and estimating the costs associated with investigation projects and preparing accurate and competitive tender proposals. The role is crucial in ensuring that bids are financially viable and align with the project's requirements. You will work closely with the Associate Operations Director in ensuring tenders are delivered in a professional and timely manner.
Responsibilities:
* Review and analyse project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand project scope and requirements.
* Conduct quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings and other project documents.
* Research and gather information on materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor costs for estimating purposes.
* Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for various aspects of the project, including labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor services.
* Collaborate with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to clarify project details and resolve any discrepancies or issues.
* Evaluate and compare supplier and subcontractor bids to select the most cost-effective and reliable options.
* Prepare tender proposals, including cost breakdowns, project schedules and other required documentation.
* Ensure that all estimates and proposals comply with contractual and regulatory requirements.
* Participate in pre-tender meetings and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of the project's requirements and constraints.
* Stay updated with industry trends, material costs and labour rates to ensure accurate and up-to-date estimates.
* Assist in the review and negotiation of contracts, subcontracts and purchase orders.
* Collaborate with the procurement team to source and evaluate potential suppliers and subcontractors.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience as a tender estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry preferred.
* Strong background knowledge of construction methods, materials, and costs.
* Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Solid organisational and time management abilities to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in construction management, quantity surveying or a related field would be beneficial.
* Familiarity with relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards would be beneficial.
* Strong negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
