Our Hillier Garden Centre at Weyhill, near Andover, is a well-established and much-loved destination for gardening enthusiasts, offering an extensive selection of plants, gifts, and outdoor living products, alongside expert advice. We are seeking a Food Hall & Shop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Food Hall, with additional responsibility for providing management cover in the Shop as required. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on delivering outstanding customer service, ensuring product quality, driving sales and profitability, and maintaining full compliance with health and safety standards. Key to this role is the ability to lead and support a team effectively, while working closely with centre management to meet revenue targets and ensure the Food Hall operates efficiently and within budget. The successful candidate will bring solid experience in stock ordering and inventory control — ensuring the consistent availability of key lines, reducing waste, and avoiding overstock. They will also demonstrate confidence in merchandising and product presentation, with a sharp eye for layout, seasonal displays, and upholding visual standards that enhance customer experience and drive sales. This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, including alternate weekends. Demonstrable experience in leading a team, managing staff, and promoting a positive work environment. Experience of managing budgets, sales targets, cost control, and improving profitability. A proactive approach to identifying bestsellers, managing stock rotation, and responding to customer buying patterns. Comfortable using stock management systems and liaising with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and accurate stock levels. Personal attributes Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate a diverse team of staff. Strong delegation skills to ensure efficient task distribution across the team/other departments. Problem-solving mindset to address daily operational challenges swiftly and effectively. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ensuring that customers have a positive shopping experience. A natural ability to handle complaints and feedback professionally and proactively. Passion for customer service and the ability to create a welcoming environment. Strong multitasking abilities to manage the shop and food hall, including stock control, operations, and staffing. High attention to detail, ensuring the shop and food hall area is well-presented and efficiently managed. Ability to adapt to seasonal demands and changes in customer preferences. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and Bank Holidays. Enthusiasm for sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. Ability to stay calm and composed in a challenging environment, particularly during busy seasons. Initiative to take ownership of tasks and make decisions that benefit the business.
