HIU / Gas Engineer
Location: Essex, Stowmarket & London (Van Mobile Role)
Salary: £55,000 + Overtime & On-Call Allowances
Hours: 40 Hours Per Week
The Role
We are seeking an experienced HIU / Gas Engineer to join a well-established M&E Contractor within their maintenance division. This is a mobile role covering Essex, Stowmarket and London, working across a mix of residential and commercial properties.
The successful candidate will carry out a wide range of tasks including HIU maintenance, domestic gas boiler servicing/repairs, and general plumbing works.
Key Responsibilities
1. Service, maintenance, and repair of HIUs (Heat Interface Units) – approx. 30% of workload.
2. Service and repair of domestic gas boilers – approx. 30% of workload.
3. General plumbing works including pipework, sanitaryware, and associated systems – approx. 30% of workload.
4. Diagnose faults, carry out remedial works, and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
5. Provide a high level of customer care and service delivery to clients.
6. Participate in the on-call rota (1 in 6 weeks) with additional payments.
7. Complete required documentation, reports, and certification to industry standards.
Requirements
8. Proven experience as a HIU Engineer / Gas Safe Registered Engineer.
9. Competent in HIU systems, gas boilers, and plumbing works.
10. Valid Gas Safe qualifications (CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1 as a minimum).
11. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing & Heating (desirable).
12. Full UK Driving Licence.
13. Strong customer service and communication skills.

17. On-call rota (1 in 6 weeks):
18. Standby: £168 per week
19. Call-out: £120 for first 3 hours, door-to-door pay thereafter
20. Engineers given ½ hour each way in travel time
