The Opportunity
I'm recruiting for a forward-thinking Derby-based tech company that's expanding its engineering team. This role is perfect for a mid-level Software Engineer who wants to work on scalable open-source applications while learning from a supportive senior team.
You'll join a team of around 10 developers, working in a collaborative environment where code quality, innovation, and professional development are genuinely encouraged.
What You'll Be Working On
Developing and maintaining backend services and APIs using PHP (Laravel) and Golang
Building new features and improving existing systems
Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
Collaborating with Product, Design, and other engineers
Participating in code reviews and technical discussions
Improving system performance, reliability, and developer experience
Projects include API-first platforms, enterprise applications, and internal tools supporting customer-facing services.
Tech Stack (Open-Source)
Backend: PHP (Laravel), Golang
Frontend: Vue.js or Svelte
Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL
Infrastructure: Linux, Docker, CI/CD pipelines
Cloud: AWS
Testing: PHPUnit, Go testing framework
Strong PHP/Laravel or Golang fundamentals and a willingness to learn the frontend stack are key; you don't need experience with everything.
What They're Looking For
2-5 years' commercial experience as a Software Engineer
Experience building backend services with PHP (Laravel) and/or Golang
Familiarity with open-source technologies in production
Comfortable owning features from development through delivery
Collaborative mindset and Agile team experience
