Plant Manager Energy from Waste Facility
Location: Central Scotland
Salary: Up to £75,000 + Benefits
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Plant Manager take full operational ownership of a highly regulated Energy from Waste facility within a growing UK energy group.
This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, safety, environmental compliance, commercial delivery and workforce leadership across a complex industrial power generation site.
The Opportunity
You will lead the day-to-day operation of a waste-to-energy power generation facility, ensuring safe, compliant and commercially efficient plant performance, while driving continuous improvement across operations, maintenance and workforce capability.
The role carries full responsibility for site performance against contractual KPIs, environmental permits and group standards, alongside financial control and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Full Site Operational Leadership
Take full accountability for the safe, compliant and commercially optimised operation of the entire facility. You will set operational direction, drive performance culture and ensure alignment across operations, maintenance and support functions to meet contractual, regulatory and group performance expectations.
Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance Ownership
Lead and embed a proactive safety culture across the site. Ensure full compliance with statutory legislation, environmental permits and group QEHS standards. Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
Contractual KPI & Performance Delivery
Own delivery of all contractual performance metrics including plant availability, operational output and environmental performance. Provide accurate reporting to senior leadership and identify improvement opportunities through detailed operational performance analysis.
Plant Performance & Continuous Improvement Strategy
Drive ongoing plant optimisation through structured performance reviews, reliability improvement initiatives and technical enhancement programmes. Develop business cases and implementation plans to improve efficiency, reliability and output.
Financial & Commercial Accountability
Take ownership of site financial performance including annual budget creation, cost forecasting, variance analysis and corrective action planning. Ensure operational decisions balance safety, compliance, reliability and commercial return.
Outage Planning & Recovery Leadership
Lead planning and execution of planned outages. Provide strong leadership during unplanned outages, coordinating internal teams and external partners to restore plant availability safely and efficiently.
Maintenance & Asset Reliability Oversight
Provide strategic oversight of maintenance planning, reliability programmes and asset lifecycle management, ensuring maintenance supports long-term plant performance and availability targets.
Waste Supply, Fuel Quality & Process Input Control
Oversee materials recovery and waste supply operations to ensure consistent fuel quality and availability into the EFW process, maintaining operational continuity across seasonal and supply fluctuations.
Senior Stakeholder & Regulatory Interface Management
Act as the primary operational interface with regulators, asset owners, suppliers and group leadership. Maintain strong working relationships and ensure regulatory and contractual obligations are consistently met.
Workforce Leadership & Capability Development
Lead, develop and inspire a multidisciplinary workforce. Drive performance management, succession planning, capability development and leadership visibility across the site.
Group Collaboration & Best Practice Sharing
Support wider group performance through collaboration with other sites, sharing operational best practice and identifying cost and operational synergies.
Legislative & Technical Compliance Leadership
Maintain strong working knowledge of industry legislation, environmental regulation and technical standards, ensuring requirements are translated into clear operational guidance for site teams.
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
Senior operational leadership experience within power generation or heavy industrial process environments
Strong understanding of steam boilers, turbines and associated plant systems
Experience operating within regulated environments with environmental permit accountability
Proven QEHS leadership and safety culture development
Experience managing site budgets and financial performance
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
Highly Desirable
Energy from Waste, Biomass, CHP or Gasification experience
BOAS certification or equivalent
HV Authorised Person experience
NEBOSH / IOSH / IEMA or equivalent
Maintenance management system experience
