Waters, a world-renowned leader in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) business segment. Within the LC-MS business, the Quan Portfolio is passionate about crafting modern quantitative mass spectrometry solutions, developing them, and bringing them to market. Our mission is to deliver comprehensive analytical testing solutions that not only improve user experience but also tackle critical challenges in detecting and quantifying small and large molecules, contaminants, and impurities. As a Senior Scientist in the Quan Portfolio, you will lead and contribute to the comprehensive evaluation of analytical systems, from early feasibility through design verification and field deployment. You will assess existing Waters products, third-party instruments, and emerging technologies to inform product strategy and innovation. This role spans the full product lifecycle, including research, development, validation, and competitive analysis, and requires translating expert scientific knowledge into actionable recommendations for product and business decisions. Responsibilities also include developing new methodologies, generating scientific content to support business initiatives, and influencing strategic direction within the group and at senior management levels. Responsibilities • Lead system evaluations by designing and executing verification and validation tests, producing actionable data to guide product development and strategic decisions. • Drive customer-focused innovation by applying deep workflow understanding to ensure new technologies meet real-world needs and deliver value. • Support R&D and product strategy through experiment design, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept data generation that informs specifications and marketing. • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, SMEs, and partners to develop user requirements, assess technologies, and explore product enhancements. • Manage customer engagement by leading early access programs and applications development while representing Waters at events and conferences. • Mentor and influence the team by training staff, guiding projects, and contributing to policies and strategies that align scientific resources with business priorities. Qualifications • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific field, higher degree is preferred. • Industrial experience essential e.g. relevant, hands-on knowledge of mass spectrometry or chromatography gained from time in pharmaceutical, QA/QC, life science, food & environmental, contract testing laboratories. • Experience in working at a senior level within an organization to formulate policy, procedure and strategy. • Excellent organisational, numerical, verbal and written communication skills.
