George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust opened in 1948 and provides a range of elective, non-elective, surgical, medical, women's, children's, diagnostic and therapeutic services to a population of more than 350,000 people.

The hub of the Trust is located on the outskirts of Nuneaton and its services cover a large footprint, including north Warwickshire, south west Leicestershire, and north Coventry. We also provide primary and community services across Coventry, Warwickshire and Leicestershire.

Salary: £37,338 - £44,962 per annum pro rata

Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision.

Undertake and documents a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical social and spiritual needs of the patients where appropriate.

Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.

Influence and monitor the standards of direct patient care delivery in accordance with best practice and operational protocols and guidelines.

Leads a nursing team to manage a group of patients throughout a shift.

Promote good working relationships within the nursing teams providing appropriate advice and support.

Facilitate the development of standards of care and assist with the implementation of appropriate monitoring techniques.

Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff below a band 6.

Main duties of the job

To support the Emergency Department in all aspects of emergency care.

To manage and support a team of nurses, ensuring the development and maintenance of high standards of nursing care & take responsibility for the day to day management of the clinical area.

Take lead for specific areas of professional practice as delegated by the Senior Sister & deputise for the Senior Sister in their absence.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Take responsibility for the clinical leadership and direction of the nursing team.
* Undertakes and documents a comprehensive, systematic, and accurate nursing assessment of the patient as appropriate.
* Deliver a high standard of nursing care based on best practice to maintain patient safety and provide a good patient experience.
* Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.
* To undertake clinical shifts on ward area
* Working within the NMC Guidelines and Trust Policies recognising one's own abilities and limitations.
* To facilitate and build team working between nurses and multi-disciplinary team to effect high standards of care.
* To understand mortality data and use knowledge of how nursing can contribute to increased mortality to determine ward standards. Use audit tools to monitor compliance with those standards.
* Maintain a good standard of communication with the multi-disciplinary team and respect the confidentiality of patients, relatives, and colleagues

* RGN / RSCN / RM
* Teaching Course City and Guilds 7307/ENB 998 or equivalent level of experience.
* Post basic qualification relevant to specialty
* Evidence of continuing professional development

* Minimum of 2 years working at Band 5 or equivalent with experience in urgent or emergency care desirable

* To be able to apply normal care and attention throughout the shift. To deal with competing demands for attention.
