Your First Big Step as a Design Engineer
You’ve ticked the degree box, picked up some hands-on experience, and now you’re itching for a role where you can put it all into practice — not just as a cog in the machine, but as part of a team where your work actually matters.
This is that role.
You’ll work on projects from the first spark of an idea through to handover for production — designing, testing, problem-solving, and learning from experienced engineers along the way. You’ll get real responsibility, but also the guidance and support to make the leap from “graduate with potential” to “confident professional”.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing (Beyond the textbooks)
Designing products with real-world manufacturing in mind — so they work on the shop floor, not just in CAD.
Getting involved in the full product lifecycle:
design, develop, test, tweak, and deliver.
Applying smart problem-solving tools (think 5 Whys, root cause analysis) to fix issues for good.
Researching and selecting the right materials — metals, plastics, rubbers — for each project.
Producing technical drawings, documents, and reports that people can actually follow.
Collaborating with other engineers, technicians, and departments to get designs right first time.
Keeping an eye on industry standards and making sure our work meets them.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
A degree in engineering (mechanical, product design, or similar).
1–2 years’ relevant experience — through a placement, internship, or first role.
CAD skills (SolidWorks will get you bonus points).
An understanding of manufacturing techniques for mechanical components.
A knack for problem-solving, balancing logic with creativity.
Clear communication skills — whether you’re talking to a machinist or a manager.
A sharp eye for detail and a methodical approach to getting things right.
Why You’ll Love It Here
You’ll work on real projects from day one — not just shadow someone else.
You’ll get variety:
design, testing, collaboration, and problem-solving.
You’ll have experienced mentors who want you to grow quickly.
You’ll see your designs turn into real products in the real world.
