Job Title: Mechanical Process Design ManagerLocation: Remote with a trip to Plymouth once a monthSector: NuclearJob Type: contract / Inside IR35Must be Sole British and worked in the UK for the last 5 yearsJob Overview:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Process Design Manager to join our team. This role will lead the design and delivery of mechanical services and process systems, with a particular focus on highly regulated industries, such as nuclear. The ideal candidate will bring over 8 years of experience in mechanical and process system design, a deep understanding of hydraulic and pressure calculations, and strong leadership in managing a team of engineers.Key Responsibilities:Lead Mechanical Process Design: Oversee and manage the design of mechanical services and process systems from concept through to completion, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.Team Leadership & Management: Manage a team of 5+ engineers, providing guidance, technical expertise, and ensuring the successful delivery of design output. Responsible for the performance, development, and mentoring of direct reports.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all design work aligns with industry standards and regulatory requirements, particularly within the nuclear sector. Promote best practices in safety and quality control.Program & Project Management: Take responsibility for the design output and schedule of assigned work packages, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.Hazard Identification & Analysis: Conduct and participate in hazard identification processes, including HAZID and HAZOP, to ensure the safety and integrity of all designs.Technical Excellence: Apply expertise in hydraulic and pressure calculations to design and troubleshoot mechanical systems.Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering disciplines, stakeholders, and clients to ensure integrated and efficient designs.Essential Requirements:Experience:8-10+ years of experience in designing mechanical services/process systems.Proven track record of working in a highly regulated industry, with a strong preference for nuclear experience.Education:BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical degree.Chartered Engineer:Must be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent.Leadership:Significant line management experience, including direct supervision of 5+ engineers.Technical Skills:Strong understanding of hydraulic and pressure calculations.Proficiency in hazard identification and analysis methods, such as HAZID and HAZOP.Design Responsibility:Previous responsibility for the programme and design output of a work package or significant portion of a project.Highly Desirable:Education:Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Desirable:Standards Knowledge:Familiarity with IEC 61511, particularly in relation to functional safety in process systems.Skills & Attributes:Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Ability to manage complex tasks, multiple priorities, and deadlines effectively.Highly organized with strong project management skills.
