Commercial Contract Lawyer

Peterborough is in the middle of major regeneration, and the City Council’s legal team is right at the centre of it. As a Commercial Contract Lawyer, you’ll take on complex, high-value agreements that support projects ranging from new infrastructure and housing to digital innovation and public services.
We’re interested in lawyers with a solid background in commercial contracts, and an appetite for varied, high-impact work. Experience in procurement or working with the public sector is useful, but not essential, what matters is the ability to navigate complexity, balance commercial priorities, and help deliver projects that make a lasting difference.
About the role
* Draft and negotiate multi-million-pound contracts
* Advise on procurement law and large-scale projects
* Support regeneration schemes, leisure facilities, and infrastructure developments
* Handle grant funding, subsidy control, and GDPR issues in commercial contexts
* Collaborate closely with finance, procurement, ICT, and delivery teams
About you
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEx Fellow
* Strong background in commercial contracts, ideally within or alongside the public sector
* Understanding of procurement law and public sector compliance requirements
* Knowledge of grant funding, subsidy control, or GDPR (desirable but not essential)
* Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
