Role Overview
* Collaborate with the outgoing Operating Theatre Manager to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.
* Oversee the day‑to‑day running of the operating theatre department to ensure operating lists are delivered safely, smoothly and on schedule.
* Work closely with consultants, anaesthetists, theatre nurses, ODPs and other departments to support high quality and safe patient pathways.
* Lead, support and develop the theatre team, including rota management, recruitment, staff development and performance reviews.
* Monitor theatre performance, including utilisation, turnaround times and cancellations, and implement improvements where needed.
* Take a lead role in clinical governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, managing incidents and driving quality improvement.
* Manage theatre budgets, equipment needs, consumables and optimise staffing levels to ensure value for money without compromising care and without wastage.
* Contribute to wider hospital planning and strategy, especially around surgical services and capacity, and report on worked hours by substantive and bank staff.
* Promote a positive culture focused on patient safety, patient experience, teamwork and staff wellbeing.
* Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control, health and safety and other statutory requirements.
* Support service development projects and help introduce new ways of working where beneficial.
* Engage fully with all hospital operational software, whilst maintaining data security and data confidentiality in line with legislation.
* On occasion and as needed, step into a clinical role to provide cover in case of unexpected absence and/or to ensure continuity of the clinical service.
Candidate Requirements
* NMC or HCPC registration with significant theatre experience.
* Proven leadership experience in a surgical or theatre setting.
* Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage complex workflows.
* A commitment to delivering top‑tier patient care and driving service excellence.
