Company overview
We are a specialist company providing tailored association management, secretariat services, and event delivery to a portfolio of UK and international membership organisations. As a trusted partner to professional associations, we offer strategic, operational, and logistical support — including finance, governance, membership, marketing, and event management. With a close-knit team of 30 professionals, we are proud of our reputation for reliability, service excellence, and sector insight.
As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Financial Controller to lead our financial operations and help shape the future of the business.
The Role
This is a hands-on and varied role, responsible for all aspects of financial management across the business and selected client accounts. From producing monthly management accounts to guiding budget setting and ensuring compliance, you'll be a key voice in shaping our financial strategy. You'll also support client finance activities and provide valuable insight to boards and committees. This role has the potential to develop into a senior management team (SMT) role dependent on the suitability of candidates and their experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all core finance functions: bookkeeping, invoicing, payroll, VAT, and reporting
* Deliver accurate monthly accounts, cash flow forecasts, and annual budgets
* Manage year-end accounts and coordinate external audits
* Oversee client finances: budget setting, reporting, and governance compliance
* Support strategic planning, pricing, and financial risk management
* Collaborate across departments and guide the finance team
What We’re Looking For
* A fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with 4+ years post-qualification experience
* Strong technical knowledge in management/statuary accounting and VAT
* Experience in SMEs, ideally in professional services, not-for-profit, or events
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain finance clearly to non-finance colleagues
* Proficiency in SAGE Line 50 and strong Excel skills
* A collaborative, can-do attitude with attention to detail
Working Environment
Based at our head office in Bathgate, this role offers a supportive, friendly working environment with the opportunity to make a tangible difference in a growing company. Occasional offsite client meetings may be required.
