Salary range: £43,421 – £46,464 per annum (Plus additional 15% enhancement for unsocial hours)

Work location: Abingdon Police Station, Abingdon 

Hours per week: 37 (rotating shift pattern) - we are open to discussions about flexible working 

Contract type: Permanent

Vetting requirements: This role is subject to a Criminal Records Check, This post is also subject to Non-Police Personnel Vetting. Further information about this process will be provided to successful candidates.

About the role

The Emergency Duty Team (EDT) are an out of hours service covering 126.5 hours of the operational working week, therefore you will be working alongside colleagues on a rotating Shift Pattern which will include some weekends and Bank Holidays. We work closely with our partner agencies and are co-located with Thames Valley Police in Abingdon Police Station.

As part of our team, you will:

1. Provide a high-quality response to emergency referrals out of normal working hours.
2. Work a rotational shift pattern.
3. Provide appropriate support and interventions to vulnerable adults, children and families to address safeguarding concerns.
4. Provide out of hours advice and guidance to professionals, as well as factually accurate and reflective reports.
5. Be the first point of contact for professionals, vulnerable adults, children, families or members of the public who have a concern which cannot wait until normal office hours resume.
6. Carry out thorough high-quality crisis led assessments for children and families, promptly identifying level of risk, need and services required to promote and ensure safe outcomes.
7. Actively apply legal and professional knowledge and skills - balancing protection, risk and support to achieve positive outcomes for those requiring our service.

Our work pattern

Your pattern is carefully managed, is fair and equitable with a combination of ‘block’ shift patterns. Shifts are as follows:

Mon – Thursday 5pm – 12:00 or 12:00 – 8.30am

Friday 4 – 12:00 or 12: -8.30am.

Weekends: 8.30am-5pm or 5pm-12:00 or 12:00 – 8.30am.

About you

We would like to hear from you if you are…

8. Always learning, with three years post qualifying Social Worker experience and a passion to grow and develop your skills, so that you can be a positive role model for children and their families.
9. Kind and caring, providing a proactive personalised approach, responding to needs in a timely manner with good communication skills and a professional telephone manner.
10. Advocating for equality and integrity in all you do, providing tailored advice and information to children and families acknowledging the uniqueness of individual needs or situations, referring to other agencies where applicable within the emergency response.
11. Willing to take responsibility and contribute to the delivery of Oxfordshire County Council’s vision and maintain a 'child/person' focused model of working by exercising professional curiosity in all areas of work.
