Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Chorlton-cum-Hardy

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This is a full-time position starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent role depending on performance.

Role Overview

This role is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in an educational setting, particularly for those considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, or mental health support. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students with learning difficulties, special educational needs (SEN), and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

The role will involve both academic and emotional support, helping students develop confidence, resilience, and positive learning habits.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Providing one-to-one and small group support to students, particularly those with SEMH needs or special educational needs (SEN).
2. Assisting students with their academic progress, focusing on subjects where they may require additional support.
3. Supporting the pastoral and emotional well-being of students by offering guidance and encouragement.
4. Helping students develop strategies to improve their self-esteem, motivation, and behaviour.
5. Collaborating with teachers and SEN coordinators to adapt lesson materials for students with additional learning needs.
6. Observing student behaviour and progress, reporting concerns to the pastoral team and SENCO where necessary.
7. Assisting in the implementation of individual learning plans (ILPs) and behaviour management strategies.
8. Encouraging a positive and inclusive school environment for all students.
9. Supporting students with exam preparation, study skills, and coping strategies for stress and anxiety.

Candidate Requirements:

1. A degree in Psychology or a related subject.
2. A genuine interest in education, child development, and mental health support.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students of varying needs and abilities.
4. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with students facing challenges.
5. Ability to work effectively as part of a team of teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral support staff.
6. Previous experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, or voluntary work) is desirable but not essential.

Salary & Benefits:

Weekly pay between £446.90 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.

A valuable opportunity to gain classroom experience, particularly for those considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, or mental health support.

The potential to secure a permanent role within the school.

Access to training and professional development through Teaching Personnel.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate to apply their knowledge in a real-world educational setting, gaining experience that will be invaluable for future careers in teaching, psychology, or educational support. If you are enthusiastic, compassionate, and eager to make a positive impact on students’ lives, we would love to hear from you.
