Overview
Assistant Design Manager – St Albans. £45,000 - £55,000 + package.
A fantastic opportunity for a technically minded and ambitious individual to join a forward-thinking main contractor. This role offers excellent exposure to complex, large-scale industrial, commercial, and logistics projects across the region, supporting pre-construction and live project delivery within a high-performing design team.
You'll be working closely with senior design and project managers, developing your understanding of full project lifecycle delivery while playing a key role in ensuring that technical design information is accurate, coordinated, and buildable.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the coordination and management of design information from tender through to completion.
* Assist with the preparation and review of technical documentation, specifications, and design programmes.
* Manage design registers, RFIs, and drawing schedules, ensuring accurate version control.
* Collaborate with consultants, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams to ensure compliance with design intent and construction requirements.
* Assist with design meetings, progress reporting, and value engineering exercises.
* Contribute to risk identification and mitigation from a design and buildability perspective.
* Support pre-construction teams in reviewing tender documentation and assisting with technical submissions.
Requirements
* Degree qualified in Architecture, Design Management, or Engineering (or similar construction-related discipline).
* 1-3 years' experience within a main contractor or design consultancy environment.
* Strong understanding of design processes and technical documentation within Design & Build projects.
* Excellent organisational, communication, and coordination skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.
* Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office; knowledge of BIM processes beneficial.
