Closing date is 17 June 2026
Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services meet the mental and behavioural needs of children and young people up to the age of 18 years. The service is split into:
The services are operationally and clinically led through a collective leadership model and are commissioned based on the NENC (North East and North Cumbria) ICB (Integrated Care Board) footprint. Specialist services (Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS) are nationally commissioned.
Children and young people in the area are supported by a range of internal and external mental health services, including advice, help and risk support. There are also local authority education and social care support services. The team supports young people and families affected by moderate to severe mental health needs, including behavioural and sleep management. Three non‑medical prescribers support the assessment and treatment of young people affected by ADHD.
The post holder will support the consultant psychiatrist and the wider team in the day‑to‑day running of the service. They will have responsibility for the assessment and management of mental and/or behavioural needs of children and young people presenting with mental disorder and requiring assessment for neurodevelopmental needs. There are opportunities to become a GMC‑registered trainer (clinical and/or educational supervisor).
We are the Mental Health and Learning Disability NHS Trust for County Durham and Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York and Selby. From education and prevention to crisis and specialist care, our talented and compassionate teams work in partnership with our patients, communities and partners to help the people of our region feel safe, understood, believed in and cared for. We nurture the recovery journey of anyone in need of our help. In our Trust, everyone has a say in how they are supported and treated because we listen to every person in our care until they feel understood. Our patients, their families and carers work together with us towards better mental health. We are committed to new thinking that improves the wellbeing of our region. We connect with our communities and partners to get mental health care right where it really needs to be.
Psychiatrists are essential contributors to the majority of our mental health teams. Service users expect and are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicated psychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. The Medical Directorate and Medical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention in a variety of ways, and the cornerstone of these efforts is The TEWV Charter for the Medical Workforce. (Please see attached Supporting Document).
The post holder will support the consultant psychiatrist and the wider team in the day‑to‑day running of the service, and undertake assessment and management of mental and behavioural needs of children and young people with mental disorders, including those requiring neurodevelopmental assessment.
