Summary At BHP, you’ll do more than balance books. After an immersive group induction with your fellow trainee group, you’ll quickly start to contribute to meaningful client work, not just shadowing. You’ll apply growing technical knowledge on real assignments, with support from your training manager, peer buddy, and our external training provider. Starting salary for individuals age 21 or above will be £24,629 p/a Training course Assistant accountant (level 3) Hours Monday to Friday, typically 8.30am - 5.00pm or 9.00am - 5.30pm, with an hour lunch break 38 hours a week Start date Monday 7 September 2026 Duration 1 year 6 months Positions available 20 Work Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. What you'll do at work Work as part of a team to deliver accountancy, audit and/or tax services to the BHP clients, including; preparing accounts, completing tax returns, reviewing financial statements, attending client meetings and corresponding with clients and professional contacts Gaining practical work experience to support exam progress. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes. Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts. Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts. Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations. Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders. Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand. Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications. Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data. Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications. Training schedule ATT or AAT Level 3 Apprenticeship Day release Leeds or Sheffield study centre (office dependent) More training information If you’re leaving sixth form/college, changing career, or don’t meet Graduate Scheme criteria, this route lets you start in practice now, gain qualifications without student debt, and progress from Level 3 AAT, or ATT for tax, right up to Level 7 (Master’s-level) status via ACCA or CTA - with full wrap-around support from mentors, buddies and our external training provider. Your apprenticeship will combine practical work experience, paid study leave and fully funded tuition The exact route depends on the team you join - but whichever path you follow, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience, expert support, and a professional qualification that’s equivalent to a Master’s degree. As you progress through your training programme, your responsibility, job title and salary will grow too - recognising your hard work, technical development and contribution to our clients.
