Job Summary
The role involves routine and specialised lung function testing, calibration and quality control of laboratory equipment, supervision of junior staff, continuous professional development, and participation in departmental research.
Responsibilities
* Perform comprehensive lung function tests on adults and paediatric out-patients and in-patients.
* Analyse test results and prioritise requests.
* Respond promptly to emergency situations and coordinate assistance when required.
* Maintain a balanced daily workload, ensuring equipment operational status, stock levels, and cleanliness.
* Identify and report equipment faults to the Lead Specialist Clinical Physiologist.
* Update professional knowledge and translate new clinical physiology trends into practice.
* Provide administrative support: accurate data entry, statistical record keeping, and audit preparation.
* Exercise clinical supervision of junior physiologist staff.
* Contribute to and uphold high standards of patient care, adhering to protocols and policies.
* Facilitate training courses and support departmental teaching sessions.
* Assist in strategic direction for ongoing research and audit activities.
* Manage resources by ensuring safe use and maintenance of all diagnostic equipment.
* Support the development of Respiratory and Sleep physiology apprentices and local junior colleagues.
Qualifications
Essential
* Undergraduate degree in clinical physiology, or Practitioner Training Programme (PTP), or Level 6 apprenticeship (with willingness to complete L6).
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* ARTP Spirometry Certificate.
* ARTP overnight oximetry certificate.
Desirable
* Relevant scientific degree or qualification recognised by RCCP/AHCS.
* PTP equivalence.
* Arterial blood gas sampling experience.
Key Requirements
* Subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

* Current UK professional registration is mandatory.
