Howard Civil Engineering is a civil engineering and groundworks contractor working with some of the largest names in the industry. We operate as both a sub-contractor to Tier 1 builders and as a principal contractor. It is essential for the role that you maintain our high health and safety standards while effectively managing our sites.
We are currently seeking a dynamic, proactive, and competent Project Manager to oversee new projects within West Yorkshire, with a background in earthworks, remediation, and demolition. Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in a similar role within the Earthworks sector, with a strong background in earthworks and remediation. A progressive career with a proven track record of improvement and advancement is preferred.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for all health & safety matters on site.
2. Manage, control, and coordinate all site operations involving labor and subcontractors.
3. Conduct daily safe starts each morning to ensure all workers are aware of the day's requirements.
4. Ensure all Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) are prepared in advance and communicated to all operatives.
5. Secure necessary permits before starting activities on site.
6. Regularly monitor the workforce on site.
7. Perform daily plant checks and ensure PUWER and LOLER documentation are up to date.
8. Keep HAVS records current.
9. Log and inform the HSEQ Manager of any accidents, near misses, or service strikes.
10. Deliver quality work on time, within budget, and safely.
11. Implement and maintain the HCE quality management system.
12. Maintain and update build records.
13. Provide clear direction, support, and motivation to team members.
14. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
15. Establish and maintain effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
16. Provide regular project updates, address client concerns, and manage expectations.
17. Adopt a continuous improvement mindset to evaluate and enhance project performance.
Minimum Requirements:
1. At least 5 years in a similar role with a proven development record (operative, foreman, supervisor).
2. Degree qualification is preferable.
3. Strong knowledge of land, soil, and water contamination.
4. Experience with contamination, earthworks, and remediation projects.
5. Proven progression from an earthworks background.
6. Knowledge of NEC contracts.
7. Compliance with project programmes.
8. Awareness of hazardous materials such as asbestos.
9. Experience in remediation and earthworks projects.
10. Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
11. Proficiency in project management software and tools.
12. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
13. Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
14. Up-to-date SMSTS certification.
15. Groundworker/plant operator background is desirable.
16. Level 6 NVQ in Construction Senior Management or equivalent.
17. First Aid certification.
