Join Our Team as a Maintenance Officer
Are you a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Officer looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference? The Council for Social Witness (Older People Services) is seeking a well-organised and proactive individual to support the upkeep and safety of our care home facilities, ensuring a comfortable and secure environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Main Function
In partnership with the Home Manager, your role is to maintain the home and grounds, ensuring all areas are free from hazards and all equipment and systems are safe and in full working order. Working in compliance with health and safety standards and within the Christian ethos of River House.

The Council for Social Witness (Older People Services) is part of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, providing care in a Christian-based environment. River House is one of 6 homes for older people run by the Council for Social Witness (Older People Services). The purpose-built Home accommodates 29 residents with diverse physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. The Home operates a No Smoking Policy.
About The Role
Key Responsibilities
* Ensuring regular tests and checks are carried out and recorded, including boiler function checks, fire alarm systems activation, generator and water temperature tests.
* Checking the maintenance book daily and carrying out repairs as necessary.
* Performing preventative maintenance.
* Complying with all aspects of Health & Safety at Work Act (e.g., COSHH).
* Attending all mandatory training applicable to role.
* Ensuring safety and cleanliness within the Home and grounds meet regulatory standards.
* Maintaining exterior of the building and grounds.
* Advising Home Manager on maintenance issues, e.g., heating, refrigeration, electrics, gas, faulty equipment.
* Handling basic repairs such as replacing bulbs, repairing locks, filling gaps on walls.
* Maintaining and storing tools and equipment safely.
* Keeping gardens well maintained.
* Decorating vacated rooms and moving furniture as needed.
* Collaborating during renovations or repairs.
* Coordinating refurbishments with minimal disturbance.
* Reporting issues to a facilities or maintenance manager.
* Assisting with driving the home’s minibus for residents’ outings, if applicable.
* Being the first point of contact for staff repairs and assisting with staff induction on emergency procedures.
* Out of hours call-outs for emergencies, providing advice or being called out when needed.
* Providing cover for other homes in your area.

Minimum Requirements
* Full clean driving license if driving is part of the role.
* Willingness to work additional hours as required.
* Respect for the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
* Ability to maintain the care home internally and externally.
* Confidence in monitoring and maintaining compliance checks.
* Willingness to undertake relevant training.
