The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Network Engineer on a permanent basis. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week.
This is a full time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.
The successful candidate will manage the operational support, monitoring, and maintenance of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SFRS) network infrastructure that supports core organisational functions. This includes the resolution of incidents, fulfilment of service requests, and the implementation of changes via change enablement, all in line with ITIL framework principles. This highly technical role has responsibility for the design and development, implementation, monitoring, support, and optimisation of SFRS's LAN, WAN, WLAN, firewall, and internet services, together with their associated systems. The postholder also has responsibility for the development, implementation, support, and optimisation of network and related equipment and devices
The candidate will be required to have an HNC in a digital networking discipline or equivalent experience, as well as relevant network technology certification or be able to demonstrate the commitment and capability to obtain them. Deep technical knowledge and extensive experience in the management and support of relevant enterprise telephony, Cloud, LAN, WAN and their associated systems is essential. Along with demonstrable experience in installing, configuring, and supporting client and mobile device operating systems. Familiarity with endpoint management tools and experience in providing customer-centric second-level technical support for end-user computing technologies is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as a full, valid UK driving license, are also required.
Desirable qualifications include a university degree in a Digital Technology or Electronic Engineering discipline, specialist certification in relevant network technologies and ITIL V4: Foundation certification.
There may be a requirement to travel throughout Scotland, where required to meet the needs of SFRS or attend or conduct in person meetings. Accommodation will be provided where appropriate.
In addition to the agreed salary, a market allowance is applicable to this post for suitably experienced candidates. Taking account of this market allowance, the potential combined maximum remuneration for this post is £45,, salary range for this role is SFRS Grade 5 £38, - £40, per annum, and where applicable a market allowance of £5, per annum will also be included.
The market allowance is an additional payment agreed to be paid for an initial twoyear period. This allowance is subject to review and may be varied or removed where market pressures change or no longer exist. SFRS Market Allowance Policy outlines the specific criteria relating to the application of market allowance payments and the conditions associated with this. The market allowance will be payable where the appointee is able to demonstrate they are suitably competent, experienced and qualified to undertake the full aspects of the role.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
