Job Overview
New Chapter Tuition is recruiting an experienced Emotional Regulation & Academic Tutor to deliver 1:1 outreach tuition and wellbeing support to secondary-aged students (11–16) across Merton.
This role supports learners with SEN, SEMH, ADHD, anxiety, behavioural needs, school refusal, and exclusion histories. You will combine academic teaching with emotional regulation and pastoral support to help students re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.
Tuition takes place in homes, libraries, learning hubs, and alternative provision settings.
This role suits SEN Teachers, Tutors, Behaviour Mentors, Learning Mentors, Teaching Assistants, Pastoral Practitioners and Graduates
Key Responsibilities

Provide personalised 1:1 tuition (KS3 & KS4)
*
Support emotional regulation, wellbeing, and engagement
*
Deliver Maths, English, and/or core subject support
*
Plan and differentiate lessons to meet individual needs
*
Use trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches
*
Manage challenging behaviour and anxiety effectively
*
Track progress and complete session reports
*
Work with parents, schools, and local authorities
Essential Requirements
*
Experience working with SEN / SEMH / SEND students
*
Secondary education experience (KS3/KS4)
*
Experience with ADHD, anxiety, behaviour support, or exclusion
*
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
*
Ability to work independently in outreach settings
*
Excellent communication and record-keeping skills
*
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable Experience
*
QTS / PGCE / QTLS
*
Alternative Provision or PRU experience
*
Behaviour Mentor / Learning Mentor / Pastoral background
*
Knowledge of EHCPs and SEND processes
*
Training in trauma-informed practice or mental health
