Field Engineer Navigation Systems - Permanent – Gravesend UK - £70,000
One of the UK's leading ports is recruiting for a Field Engineer – Navigation Systems to join their team.
Working as part of the Ports IT Team as a team of 4 focusing on RADAR, VHF, and microwave to name a few of our vital services, you’ll ensure existing assets are regularly maintained and guide the planning, installation and support for our ambitious replacement and upgrade programme.
Other key responsibilities will include (but not exhaustive to);
* Maintain continuous operation of all navigation system sensors (e.g., radar, AIS, radios, CCTV, meteorological and tidal sensors) to ensure safe port operations.
* Install, monitor, and maintain sensor equipment across the navigation systems estate.
* Diagnose and resolve technical faults efficiently, escalating issues when necessary.
* Lead or contribute to equipment replacement projects, including planning, procurement, and implementation.
* Research and specify new equipment, supporting procurement and evaluation processes.
* Maintain accurate technical documentation, change logs, and asset records.
* Ensure all work complies with HSE regulations, Company standards, and cyber security requirements (e.g., GDPR, NIS directive).
* Prepare and maintain safety documentation (e.g., risk assessments, method statements, COSHH).
The successful candidate will have a Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related field, with hands on experience for a number of years. You will have a strong understanding of H&S regulations (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, Working at Height), and a full uk driving licence.
The role has some essential criteria:
* Expert in diagnosing and repairing electrical, electronic, and telecom systems (including RADAR, radio, microwave, and IT-based systems).
* Proficient in IP networking and IT for sensor configuration and maintenance.
* Certified and physically able to work at height and in confined spaces.
* Holds or can obtain certifications in Sea Survival, Fire Awareness, First Aid, Manual Handling, and Confined Spaces.
* Medically fit and able to maintain required fitness levels.
* Eligible for and able to maintain BPSS and CTC security clearances..
* Flexible with working hours, including on-call duties and out-of-hours support.
